An Outline For The 7-Day Spiritual Fast

Fasting involves the abstinence of food; and it is combined with brokenness for a specific reason, with intense prayer unto God.

The practice of prayer and fasting should be a deliberate choice and not be considered a routine duty, that is why the Lord told the prophet Zechariah to:

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? ~ Zech.7:5

.
Fasting is the method used to humble yourselves before God, to seek his face, his intervention, and his mercy.  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land ~ 2 Chron. 7:14.

There are different types of spiritual fasts – each for a specific length of time, purpose, and with specific requirements (no food or drink etc). In this post I would like to share a few pointers about the 7-day spiritual fast . . . the same fast for seven days mentioned in 1 Samuel chapter 31, when there was spiritual defilement.

Rudiments Of The 7-Day Spiritual Fast

The 7-day spiritual fast is a powerful fast, and it is used by Christians and non-believers alike; it is even a requirement for some spiritual rituals. The main purpose of the 7-day spiritual fast is to cleanse, sanctify, and restore.

The 7-day spiritual fast is not a magic formula, and it should not to be used as a means to accomplish your own desires. It is to be pursued by those who need God’s mighty hand to deliver them, and practiced by those who recognize that at the end of the seven days, being closer to God was the greatest benefit of it all.

Reasons For The 7-Day Spiritual Fast

This 7-day spiritual fast is for those persons who need:

  • A specific answer from the Lord.
  • A breakthrough in spiritual matters such as oppression, curses, a cycle of failure and defeat, bondage to sexual and/or other sins etc.
  • Help when there are spiritual attacks, enemies, unexplained illnesses, strange dreams etc.
  • To repent from their direct or indirect involvement in areas of spiritual darkness such as using charms, visiting witches, making a blood covenant with another person, doing the rites and practices of other religions, working magic, praying to another god (demon) etc.
  • Spiritual deliverance and healing for themselves, or for another person.

Regimen/Outline For The 7-Day Spiritual Fast

During the 7-day spiritual fast, your whole focus will be on God alone. It is important that you pour out your heart and soul to God, and lay bare everything before him. Some of your prayers during this time will be based on selected verses which you will find in your Bible.

For each of the seven days, your focus, choice of songs, Bible readings, and prayers will be on the following areas:

Day 1:  Repentance and forgiveness.
Day 2:  Praise and worship.
Day 3:  Plea for mercy.
Day 4:  Plea for deliverance.
Day 5:  Plea for grace (God’s favour).
Day 6:  Plea for healing (and for other needs), and for God’s help.
Day 7:  Dedication (of your body, spirit and soul to God) and Thanksgiving.
.

* Note: Do not follow this outline if you are led by the Holy Spirit to do otherwise.

Results Of The 7-Day Spiritual Fast

The results of the 7-day spiritual fast are diverse. Some persons had dreams, and a few had visions; while others were directed by God through scripture, circumstances, and people.  There were some persons who had interaction with angels, and some gave reports of unbelievable experiences. Many persons discovered the source of their problems and got a breakthrough.

Not all persons were healed; however many persons who did this fast were delivered and many were healed, and some had a new beginning, or second chance. At this point, let me hasten to mention a few words of Jesus to those persons who got their healing:

Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. ~ John 5:14

.

A Final Word . . . I also did this 7-day spiritual fast some years ago; and must say that it was hard to do. Nonetheless, I gained insight about certain matters starting from the very first day of the fast; and also grew deeper in my faith in God. This is the fast to do when you have one or more of the reasons listed above. May God bless you.
